OBTESA enourages all dog breeders to perform DNA screenings for genetic disease, have their dogs tested for hip dysplasia, and use breed management best practices. The Old-fashioned Black and Tan English Shepherd Association reserves the right to remove or exclude any breeder who does meet our criteria for basic ethical standards and practices.

The Old-fashioned Black and Tan English Shepherd is a breed of working dog native to the United States. The Old-fashioned Black and Tan English Shepherd is considered one of the most versatile of all herding dogs and is not only capable of working with any species of livestock, but also of hunting, tracking, search-and-rescue, agility, competitive obedience, companionship, and personal protection/guard dog duty.
The Old-fashioned Black and Tan English Shepherd Association is a Tennessee non-profit public benefit corporation. We operate solely for educational and charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We work to preserve the unique qualities of the bloodline, to preserve the integrity of the bloodline, and to protect the longevity of the bloodline. Our strategy is to encourage sound genetic management and foster robust cultural appreciation.
